Conclusion

Although this blog was originally intended to breakdown an existing information system, in the course of researching Best Buy and interviewing Steve Kaminsky, our knowledge on the subject of MIS exceeded all expectations. Our team concentrated on Red Prairie, a warehouse management software system. Red Prairie, also known as Retek, is currently utilized within Best Buy Distribution Centers. Only after breaking down the IS into five components: Hardware, Software, Data, Procedures, and People, was our team able to pin point its various strengths and weaknesses. As mentioned in the "Business Strategy" tab, Best Buy's competitive strategy is differentiation across the industry. Despite its flaws, Red Prairie does fall in line with this competitive strategy. As stated in the "Analysis" tab, it does so by unifying inventory and warehouse management processes via one centralized location. While Best Buy could certainly maintain their current strategy, with our recommendations they could do so more effectively and efficiently.
